Mining PPE in Tanzania goes through Tanzanian-owned companies
Start with the rule that shapes this market. In January 2026 the Ministry of Minerals announced a list of goods and services in the mining sector that are reserved for companies fully owned by Tanzanians, under the Mining (Local Content) Regulations. The supply of overalls, work clothes and PPE is on that list. So we do not sell PPE directly to mines in Geita, Mwanza or Shinyanga. We supply Tanzanian-owned distributors, and they hold the mine contracts.
For a Tanzanian supplier that means a Dubai source for complete mine kits, with Border, BSW and Topsafe products, datasheets for every line and mixed containers into Dar es Salaam. If you already supply a mine, or want to, send a distributor enquiry through Border Africa.
What Lake Zone mines usually specify
Gold operations around Geita, Mwanza and Kahama in Shinyanga issue much the same kit to every worker, and the same items come up again in tenders.
- Reflective coveralls: the Supreme Brite BSC 0801 is 210-220 GSM cotton with single and double line reflective tape. Custom logos are available, so distributors can brand coveralls per mine. See coveralls.
- Safety boots: S3 boots such as the Stabler Ankle Plus BFP 2063 have a steel toe cap, steel midsole, slip and oil resistance, and an enlarged collar for ankle support. See safety shoes.
- Helmets: the BSH 1230 helmet has an ABS shell and a 4-point ratchet for 53-64 cm, certified to EN 397:2012 + A1:2012. See safety helmets.
- Dust masks: N95 and KN95 masks for blasting, crushing and haul roads, in respiratory protection.
- Gloves: the BCRG 1457 cut resistant glove is rated EN 388:2016 cut level C, with PU coating for grip. See safety gloves.
- Work at height and rescue: the BFH 0400 harness to EN 361:2002, plus a rescue tripod and winch for shaft and confined space work, in fall protection.
Hi-vis vests for plant and pit traffic are in safety vests. Note that our PVC gumboot has no toe cap, so if a mine asks for steel toe gumboots, tell us the spec and we will confirm what we can offer.
Who can buy from us, and how
| Buyer | How to order |
|---|---|
| Mine or mining licence holder | Through a Tanzanian-owned distributor |
| Tanzanian-owned PPE distributor | Quotation and proforma from Dubai, mixed containers to Dar es Salaam |
| Contractor in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma or Arusha | Quotation from Dubai, or through a local partner |
| Factory, port or logistics company | Quotation from Dubai, or through a local partner |
If you are unsure if a contract falls under the mining rules, check with the Mining Commission or your legal adviser before you order.
Dar es Salaam port, then inland
Most cargo from Jebel Ali lands at Dar es Salaam. Sea transit is typically two to three weeks port to port, and your forwarder confirms each sailing. From Dar, goods move by road to Dodoma, and by road or rail on to Mwanza, Shinyanga and Geita. Arusha buyers sometimes route through Dar es Salaam and sometimes through the northern ports, so ask your forwarder which works for your load. Small urgent orders can go by air.
Outside mining, the demand is mostly building work in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma, port and logistics work, and factories. For these sites we supply the same helmets, boots and vests, with FR coveralls such as the Topsafe Noburn TFRC 2000 for welding crews.
TBS checks and import documents
The Tanzania Bureau of Standards runs pre-shipment verification for regulated products, and your clearing agent will tell you which lines need a certificate of conformity. Each shipment leaves Dubai with a commercial invoice, a packing list and a certificate of origin, and we send product datasheets and test reports for the lines your agent names.
Ordering steps
Send your list with sizes and quantities. Once the quotation is agreed you receive a proforma invoice and pay on the terms set for that order. Cargo is booked out of Jebel Ali by sea, or flown for small urgent orders, and different products can share one container. Distributors visiting Dubai can see the range at our Deira showroom at Baniyas Square.
We also supply Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria. Tanzanian distributors can reach the Border Africa desk by WhatsApp on +971 54 446 7693 or at africa@borderppe.ae.
