Ear plugs and hearing protection supplier in UAE and Dubai

Border Safety Wears supplies Border-brand ear plugs to construction sites, workshops, factories and plant rooms from our Deira showroom in Dubai. The current range is all ear plugs, in corded and cordless formats, packed as individual pairs or in bulk boxes.

What we supply

Attenuation figures are published for BEP 3010 and BEP 3011. For the other codes, ask us for the datasheet before you write them into a hearing conservation plan.

SNR, NRR and EN 352: reading the ratings

Hearing protectors in Europe are tested to EN 352. Part 2 covers ear plugs, Part 1 ear muffs and Part 3 helmet-mounted muffs. SNR (single number rating) is the European figure, measured under EN ISO 4869. NRR is the US EPA rating. It is measured differently and usually comes out lower for the same plug, which is why BEP 3010 shows SNR 37 dB and NRR 32 dB.

A common reference for when protection is needed is the EU noise directive (2003/10/EC):

Daily noise exposureRequirement
80 dB(A)Hearing protection must be made available
85 dB(A)Hearing protection must be worn and the area marked
87 dB(A)Exposure limit, taking the protector into account

More attenuation is not always better. EN 458 guidance aims for a level at the ear of roughly 70 to 80 dB(A). A high-SNR plug in a moderately noisy area can cut out radio calls, reversing alarms and shouted warnings, so match the protector to the measured noise level rather than buying the highest rating by default.

Hearing protection in Gulf heat and dust

  • Heat: in summer, ear muffs trap sweat around the cups and workers tend to lift them off. Foam plugs are cooler over a long shift, which helps keep them in place.
  • Fitting: roll the foam into a thin cylinder, pull the ear up and back, insert, and hold for a few seconds while it expands. A plug sitting half out gives far less than its rated SNR.
  • Dust and hygiene: fit plugs with clean hands. On dusty sites, issue individually packed pairs and treat disposable foam plugs as single use.
  • Corded or cordless: corded plugs suit people who remove them often, such as supervisors moving between quiet and noisy zones. Keep cords away from rotating machinery. Cordless plugs are simpler for bulk dispensing.

Ear Protection: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SNR and NRR on ear plugs?
SNR is the European single number rating, tested under EN ISO 4869 for protectors certified to EN 352. NRR is the US EPA rating and uses a different method, so it usually comes out a few decibels lower for the same plug. Compare products using the same rating type.
At what noise level is hearing protection required?
A common reference is the EU noise directive, where protection must be made available from 80 dB(A) daily exposure and must be worn from 85 dB(A). Your site or client HSE plan sets the rule that applies, so base the decision on a noise survey of the work area.
Ear plugs or ear muffs: which is better?
Both work when worn correctly, and the right one depends on the task. Foam ear plugs are cooler in Gulf heat and fit under helmets and hoods, while muffs are quick to put on and take off for short, repeated exposure. Our current ear protection range is ear plugs, in corded and cordless formats.
How do you fit foam ear plugs correctly?
With clean hands, roll the plug into a thin cylinder, reach over your head to pull the ear up and back, and insert the plug. Hold it for a few seconds while the foam expands. If you can still hear your own voice loudly or the plug sits half out, refit it.
Are foam ear plugs reusable?
Disposable foam plugs are meant to be used once and thrown away. Reusing them on dusty sites carries dirt into the ear canal and the foam loses its shape, which lowers protection. Replace any plug that is dirty, hardened or no longer expands properly.
Can you supply ear plugs in bulk across the UAE and GCC?
Yes. Cordless BEP 3000 is supplied 200 pairs per box, and we deliver within 24 hours across the UAE. We also supply Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain, with corporate accounts and volume pricing for repeat orders.
