Lighter options include the TopSafe Toriox TTS 2007 in 185 GSM twill cotton and the Eragon TES 2008 in 135 GSM polyester. The Economy Work Suit BES 0700 is a basic 210-220 GSM cotton set in Petrol Blue and Beige.

Standards and fabric terms to check

Most work suits are general workwear, not certified PPE. If the job involves sparks, molten metal or flame, the suit needs a protective clothing standard:

  • EN ISO 11611 covers clothing for welding and allied processes, in Class 1 (lower spatter) and Class 2 (heavier spatter and radiant heat).
  • EN ISO 11612 covers heat and flame, with codes for flame spread (A), convective heat (B), radiant heat (C), metal splash (D, E) and contact heat (F).

In this category, the Firex Work Suit BFRS 0951 is listed to EN ISO 11611:2015 and EN ISO 11612:2015. The TopSafe Exxelo Work Suit TES 2006 is listed to BS EN ISO 3801 and BS EN ISO 12945-2:2020. These are fabric tests: EN ISO 3801 checks fabric weight, and EN ISO 12945-2 checks resistance to pilling. They describe fabric quality, not protection.

Two finishing terms also matter. Mercerized cotton is treated for a smoother, stronger fibre that takes dye better. Sanforized fabric is pre-shrunk, so the suit keeps its size after washing. The Economy BES 0700 is non-sanforized, so allow for some shrinkage on the first washes when choosing sizes.

Choosing work uniforms for Gulf conditions

For outdoor crews in summer, 185-220 GSM cotton is the practical range: it breathes and absorbs sweat. Light colours such as Beige absorb less sun than dark shades, while Petrol Blue and Royal Blue hide dirt better in workshops. Reflective tape on the Aurex, Firex and Exxelo suits helps at dusk and on night shifts. Avoid polyester suits near welding, grinding or cutting.

Two-piece suits are easier to wear through a long shift and the midday break than a one-piece coverall. If the job needs full-body cover, see our coveralls.

Work Suit: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a work suit and a coverall?
A work suit is a two-piece shirt and trouser set, while a coverall is a one-piece garment with a single front closure. Work suits are easier to wear for long shifts and let you replace the shirt or trousers separately. Coveralls give continuous cover and are preferred for dirty, oily or hot work.
Which fabric is best for work uniforms in UAE heat?
100% cotton in the 185-220 GSM range is the most practical for outdoor work in the UAE because it breathes and absorbs sweat. Polyester is lighter and keeps its colour well but holds more heat and can melt near sparks. Heavier 240-270 GSM cotton suits indoor workshops, industrial laundering and the cooler months.
What do mercerized and sanforized mean on a work suit specification?
Mercerizing is a treatment that gives cotton a smoother surface, better strength and better dye uptake. Sanforizing pre-shrinks the fabric so the garment keeps its size after washing. A non-sanforized suit can shrink a little in the first washes, so allow for that when choosing sizes.
Do I need an FR work suit for welding?
Yes, if the work involves sparks, spatter or flame, a normal cotton or polyester suit is not enough. Look for a suit certified to EN ISO 11611 for welding and EN ISO 11612 for heat and flame. Polyester work suits should be kept away from welding and cutting because the fabric can melt.
Are work suits classed as PPE?
Most work suits are general workwear and uniforms, not certified protective clothing. A work suit only counts as PPE for a specific hazard when it is certified to the relevant standard, such as EN ISO 11611 or EN ISO 11612 for heat and flame. Fabric tests such as EN ISO 3801 or EN ISO 12945-2 describe fabric quality, not protection.
