Fire Safety Equipment Supplier in Dubai and the UAE

Border Safety Wears supplies fire blankets and hot-work protection to fabrication yards, workshops and facility managers: one ready-to-use fire blanket, four fibreglass blanket rolls and a welding apron (BWA 1700).

The Border Fire Blanket BFB 2500 is glass fibre, 120 × 120 cm, with heat resistance up to 550°C, and is listed for Class A and B fires. The rolls are cut to size to cover equipment, floors and pipework near hot work:

RollThicknessSizesCodes
Border 0.5 mm0.5 mm1 × 25 m, 1 × 50 mBFB 2501, BFB 2502
TopSafe 0.5 mm0.5 mm1 × 25 m, 1 × 50 mTFB 3300, TFB 3301
TopSafe 0.8 mm0.8 mm1 × 25 m, 1 × 50 mTFB 3302, TFB 3303
Border 1 mm1 mm1 × 25 m, 1 × 50 mBFB 2503, BFB 2504

All four are white fibreglass with a listed temperature resistance of 350°C to 550°C, breaking strength of at least 400 N and thermal conductivity below 0.035 kcal/m·h·°C. Thicker cloth is usually picked where heavy spatter and slag land on it for long periods; thinner cloth is easier to cut and wrap around pipes.

Fire classes, extinguishers and where a blanket fits

Two classification systems are used in the UAE. The European one has Class A for solids such as wood and paper, B for flammable liquids, C for flammable gases, D for metals and F for cooking oils, with electrical fires treated separately. The US NFPA system uses C for electrical and K for cooking oils. In European classes:

Extinguisher typeTypical use
WaterClass A
FoamClass A and B
CO2Class B and electrical equipment
Dry powder (ABC)Class A, B, C and electrical
Wet chemicalClass F

A fire blanket covers the first seconds: smothering a small fire before it spreads, or wrapping a person whose clothing has caught fire. It sits alongside the extinguishers in your fire plan, not in place of them.

Dubai Civil Defence context

Building fire protection across the emirates follows the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice, enforced by Civil Defence. Extinguishers and fixed systems for a building generally need to be listed products, installed and maintained by an approved contractor. If an item is part of a Civil Defence submission, confirm the listing your consultant needs and ask us for the datasheet first. Welding blankets and aprons usually fall under the hot-work permit and site HSE plan.

In UAE summers, keep blankets dry and ready at each welding bay, out of direct sun, and handle cut fibreglass edges with gloves.

Fire Safety: frequently asked questions

What are the main types of fire extinguishers and their uses?
Water extinguishers are for Class A fires in solids such as wood and paper. Foam covers Class A and B, CO2 is for flammable liquids and electrical equipment, dry powder ABC covers a wide range including electrical, and wet chemical is for cooking oil fires. Always check the classes printed on the extinguisher label.
What kind of fire can a fire blanket be used on?
A fire blanket is for small fires that can be smothered, such as a pan, a waste bin or burning clothing. Check the fire classes listed for the blanket you buy; the Border BFB 2500, for example, is listed for Class A and B fires. Larger fires need extinguishers and evacuation.
How do you use a fire blanket?
Pull the tapes to release the blanket, hold it up with your hands behind it to shield them, and lay it over the fire, away from you, without throwing it. Turn off the heat or fuel source if it is safe to do so. Leave the blanket in place until the fire is out and the item has cooled.
What is a fire blanket roll used for?
Fibreglass blanket rolls, often called welding blankets, are cut to size and laid over or hung around equipment, floors, pipework and walls near welding, cutting and grinding. They stop sparks, spatter and heat from reaching nearby materials and are a common control under hot-work permits.
Which thickness of fire blanket roll should I choose?
Thinner rolls, such as 0.5 mm, are lighter and easier to cut, drape and wrap. Thicker rolls, such as 0.8 mm or 1 mm, are usually chosen where heavier spatter or hot slag will sit on the cloth for longer. Your hot-work procedure or site engineer may specify the minimum.
Does fire safety equipment in Dubai need Civil Defence approval?
Fire protection systems and extinguishers that form part of a building's fire safety installation generally need to meet the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code and be accepted by Civil Defence, with installation and maintenance by approved contractors. Confirm the requirement with your fire consultant before ordering, and ask the supplier for the product datasheet.
