Gold mines and offshore oil, with Accra in between
PPE buying in Ghana splits two ways. The gold belt around Tarkwa and Obuasi needs mine kits by the thousand: boots, helmets, gloves, dust masks and reflective workwear. Takoradi is the base for offshore oil, where crews need FR coveralls and rig-floor footwear that match operator specs. Between them sit Accra and Tema, with construction, factories and the port, and Kumasi, the main trading city for the Ashanti region. We supply all of these from Dubai through Border Africa.
Offshore and oil support from Takoradi
Ghana's heat and humidity make fabric weight matter. The BSW Firewing BSW 0360 is an inherent FR and antistatic coverall at 180 GSM, certified to EN ISO 11612 (A1, A2, B1, C1, F1) and EN 1149-5. Where a client spec asks for NFPA 2112 or an arc rating under IEC 61482-2, the Tintrex Coverall BTC 4050 lists both, at 240 GSM in royal blue or orange. Both are in the coverall range.
On deck, the BSW Rigger Boot BSW 0501 pulls on fast and is rated S1P to EN ISO 20345:2011, with a steel toe cap and steel midsole. The BIPG 8000 impact gloves carry EN 388:2016 4X42C, with TPR back-of-hand protection for pipe and tool handling. See safety shoes and safety gloves.
Gold mining around Tarkwa and Obuasi
Mine kits usually start with an S3 boot such as the BFP 2064, rated S3 SRC for slip resistance, and a helmet to EN 397 from our safety helmet range. Add N95 or KN95 masks from respiratory protection for crushing and haul roads, hi-vis vests from safety vests for pit traffic, and harnesses and rescue tripods from fall protection for work at height and in confined spaces. For pit and plant traffic, the BSVF 2000 vest is 120 GSM polyester with a zip, reflective tape and pockets for radios and notebooks.

Local procurement rules for mines
The Minerals Commission publishes a local procurement list for the mining sector. The sixth edition (2025) includes overalls and work clothes, to be supplied by companies incorporated in Ghana with Ghanaian directors and shareholders only. Boots, helmets, gloves and masks are not named on it at the time of writing, but mines also run their own vendor registration. In practice, coveralls for a Ghanaian mine go through a Ghanaian partner, and it is often simpler for the same partner to supply the full kit. Upstream oil and gas has its own local content regulations, which also favour Ghanaian companies.
So we are looking for Ghanaian distributors who already serve the mines and oil service companies, or want to. Send an enquiry through Border Africa.
Tema, Takoradi and inland
Cargo from Jebel Ali lands at Tema for Accra, Kumasi and the north, or at Takoradi for the Western Region, which is closer to Tarkwa and the oil support bases. Kumasi is served by road from Tema. Sea transit to Tema is typically a few weeks, broadly in line with Lagos and longer than the East African routes, and the forwarder gives the actual schedule at booking.
Clearing and ordering
The Ghana Standards Authority checks certain regulated goods, and your clearing agent will confirm what applies to your lines. Our export set is the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin, plus test reports and datasheets per product, which are also on each product page.
To order, send your list for a quotation with sizes, colours and the standard each item must meet. When you confirm, we raise a proforma invoice and payment follows on the agreed terms. Boots, coveralls, helmets and gloves can be packed together in one container, and urgent cartons can be flown to Accra. Company logos on coveralls and vests are available for contractor and mine-supplier orders. Buyers who travel to Dubai can see samples at our Deira showroom near Baniyas Square, and our new facility is in Umm Al Quwain.
We also supply Nigeria, Kenya and Tanzania. Ghana enquiries go to the Border Africa desk: +971 54 446 7693 on WhatsApp, or africa@borderppe.ae.
